An important goal of the modern surgery is low invasiveness and optimal clinical healing. Especially in “regenerative surgery”, an aspect that became extremely important in oral surgery.
Today regenerative procedures are used for:
The 1st generation platelet concentrates (e.g. PRP, PRGF) have been used worldwide, but with inconsistent clinical benefits due to several reasons including the difficulty in preparation as well as the variety of protocols.
The 2nd generation platelet concentrates (L-PRF) are clearly more promising. L-PRF is extremely simple in preparation and clinical use, inexpensive (10% or less than the current so called golden products) and 100% safe, since no blood manipulation nor additives are used (except a 12min centrifugation). L-PRF is currently used in many medical branches including brain surgery, wound care, as alternative for skin grafts, to close fistulae… (Reksodiputro et al. 2014, Lara et al. 2015).
